HANDMADE :: Kitchen Linens with Charles Dickens Quotes

I was raised in a home where Charles Dickens was quoted often — not the beautiful literary passages, but the little phrases uttered by quirky characters. These lines have been woven into our family throughout the years and pop up at the most hilarious times. So when I wanted to embroider some tea towels for my mom recently, I knew I had to start with a quote from Mr. Smallweed in Bleak House.

I’d love to make more of these. There’s no end to phrases from great books I could envision stitched out like this. And couldn’t we all use a little beauty infused into everyday chores?

What sort of words would you like to see on a linen towel?

INTERIORS :: The prettiest H&M children’s room textiles…which are not available in the US!

Marianne from the gorgeous Scandinavian-style blog Nordic Bliss posted about the new H&M kids collection this week, and I haven’t been able to stop ooh and ahhing over what I see online. Rumor has it H&M Home is coming to the US in 2013…but what do you think the chances are that they’ll carry these exact same items? I sure wish they shipped internationally right now. :-P

See, I was planning to get Aveline a comforter and duvet cover set from Ikea once we convert her crib to a toddler bed, but I don’t see anything in the new Ikea catalogue that would really go with the lime green color. But that rabbit…ohhhh, I have to figure out a way to get that to the US, don’t you think? ;-) I mean, it is only Β£14.99 for a duvet cover and pillowcase! Ah, it’s fun to window shop and dream…

HANDMADE :: Bold Modern Granny Stripe Baby Blanket – And New Items in the Shop for 2012

Bold Striped Baby Blanket 1 - Granny Stripe Crochet - Chenille, alpaca, and wool in blues and purples

It’s been a while since I shared any crochet project here other than my owl hats.Β But, I’ve been working on this blanket for a while now, and finally finished it up and mailed it off last week. It’s worked in granny stripes, but I think the mixed textures and varying stripe width Β gives it a more modern look than you’d expect.

I’m tossing around the idea of selling similar baby blankets in 2012. I haven’t really done any market research yet to determine what would be most likely to sell, though, and I would still have to work out a price point.

I’ve got another striped wool blanket in progress — this time in bold solid colors — but we’ll see if it ends up in Aveline’s room or in the shop. ;-)

In 2012, the shop will also see the addition of plush / stuffed creatures! Super exciting, right? I’ve been so inspired by these plush/softies. I’m making a crochet and felt monster for Aveline, so I’ll post photos of that in the near future as well (although probably not until after Christmas, unless someone puts magical elf sprinkles in my coffee before then).

What do you guys think? Is there is something specific you’d like to see in the shop in 2012?
