INSPIRATION :: Which Do You Like Better?
LIFE IN PHOTOS :: One 2-year-old and One Fan

Summer in a Florida apartment. Need I say more?
LIFE IN PHOTOS :: This Kid

This kid is pretty great.
Even if she DID moo — loudly! — through the entire dairy aisle last time I was at Target.
She’s been extra interested in “taking pih-uhs” lately, so of course we did the only logical thing.Β We gave her a blog.
Introducing…Aveline {and a } Camera, a website of photographs taken by a two-year-old.
When she draws, she flies

This is Aveline’s little art space — our old 1940s table, tucked into the corner of our apartment, with big windows all around it. At any given time, the table is covered with large pieces of paper, spiral-bound sketch pads, tiny blank books, stickers, markers sorted by color, bits of crayons broken in half, and a few plastic animals scattered across the table. There’s almost always a fedora and a hula hoop hanging off the back of one of the wooden chairs. Β There’s a pendant from her baby shower and stars from when she turned two.
And there’s a view, too, because if you duck down and look through the windows at just the right angle, you see a tree instead of a toll booth, an exit ramp, a chain link fence, or other apartment buildings.
When she sits here, wearing an old gingham pinafore which used to be mine, she counts to thirteen skipping five, and she draws letter A’s and numby 2’s and letter Z’s and circles and faces and eyes and airplanes.
When she draws, she flies to a world far, far from here.
I hope she can always get lost this way.
LIFE IN PHOTOS :: One Little Monkey

Happy Friday! What are your plans for this long Memorial Day weekend? I can’t say we’ve quite decided yet. I’d love to go to the beach, but I’m sure millions of other people have the same idea. :/ Although I am sure Aveline would be happy if I just let her wreak havoc on the furniture all weekend.

This Corner of Wednesday is the Most Beautiful Place on Earth

Outside, the sun shares the stage with the ragged-edged clouds, like an old shadow puppet show.
Inside, lego pieces click into each other and climb higher, building a tower which rises higher in imagination than it does in tiny reality. Johnny Cash strums on his old guitar, and sings through the decades, through record scratches all the way through to internet streaming.
I tap my foot without realizing it, as I pull laundry from the dryer and pile it into a basket, a colorful tangled-up heap of he-and-she-and-small person. There’s the lingering aroma of coffee and lavender, of biscuits and clean clothes.
There are dirty dishes in the sink and the bed is unmade and the couch pillows are on the floor, but I hum along and Aveline dances and this corner of Wednesday is the most beautiful place on earth.
LIFE IN PHOTOS :: Clouds, Mud, and Florida in the Spring

Today, we decided this was the best way to handle the clouds and the humidity and the mud and the rain.
Today, we decided this is how you embrace what you’re given.
Today, we made the Fed Ex man look at us sideways and made our retired snowbird neighbor burst out laughing.
These are the things which fill a muggy, dark afternoon spring to overflowing.
