Staying Cool in the Heat (August Photo Challenge: Day 2)

Aveline knows there’s no better way to beat the heat than with a midday siesta. While the noon sun burns hot, wilting the leaves and muting the birds’ song, she snoozes away in her bright little diaper.

Her days are spent mostly shirtless, at least while we’re indoors. When we go out,she wears a cotton hat and a sundress, and sometimes a pair of shoes from her adorable collection of mary janes.

Once papa gets home, she’ll beg him for a sip of ice water. He can’t ever resist, and lets her wet lips slobber all over the rim of his glass. I love the tiny slurping sound she makes as she gulps down little mouthfuls of water.

It doesn’t cool down at night, here. When it’s dark, the wispy hair around her ears will still be damp from sweat, and she’ll fall asleep again sprawled out atop her blankets.

So, who’s going to join me in taking a photograph each day during the month of August? I had so much fun earlier this summer during the June Photo Challenge — although I disappeared to visit my family part-way through the month and didn’t complete the list. This time, I want to stick to it, rain or shine. (We get a lot of both here in Florida).

My Friday Afternoon Wish List

My Friday afternoon wish list? It isn’t lengthy or elaborate. It contains precisely one item, which, if you replaced Aveline with me and replaced the crib with my bed, it would look exactly like this:

Of course, I didn’t sleep while Aveline napped. Oh, nooo. I ran around the house with cleaning supplies, scrubbing faucets and sinks instead.

LITTLE STYLE :: Aveline’s Room (and her newest Felted Owl!)

Good morning! We’re way overdue for a little sneak peek at Aveline’s room, right? I don’t think I’ve posted any pictures of it since we moved to Florida.

I recently won this adorable little handmade felted owl from a BlissFull Essence / Evenswood Owlbums giveaway. Isn’t he ridiculously cute?  I told Christine I’d send her photos of the little fellow in his new home, and I thought I’d share them with you as well.

We seem to be amassing a collection of owls, which I am totally okay with. (Remember the hand-appliqued owl onesie?)

Here’s the little owl on top of Aveline’s dresser next to Lotta from Charlie and Lola and some Urban Outfitters Owlets (no longer in stock). I don’t remember where we purchased the plush lemur.

Aveline hasn’t officially moved into her room yet (her crib is still next to our bed), so her room doubles as a guest space. My mom handmade the gorgeous duvet cover you see below.

We love textiles and books around here! My mother-in-law made this beautiful quilt — you can usually find out on our living room floor with a little Aveline on top of it.
