pinterest: my ‘dreamy outdoors’ pinboard of pretty summer days

have you heard of pinterest? i love it — it’s a fabulous virtual pinboard which allows you to easily save inspiring images from any webpage. the best part about it, in my opinion, is that it saves the source of the image, so when you look back through your pins & boards, you always know where you found any particular image. it’s also ridiculously easy to use. when you’re on a webpage with an image you want to save, simply click the ‘pin it’ bookmarklet on your toolbar. pinterest then pulls up all the images on that page, and all you have to do is click on the one you want to save, choosing which of your boards you want to pin it on.

i thought i’d share a few photos from one of my pinterest boards.

high summer 2011 toast UK catalogue

i love the wind — the summer wind — blowing through the leaves and the tall grass.

forgive me, midwestern family. i don’t believe you yet have properly fluttering leaves. that’s just wrong. so while you’re waiting for old man winter to finally get his grubby hands off the world, check out these latest high summer (doesn’t that sound exhilarating?) images from toast.

meanwhile, i’m off to shower and generally get ready for the day, as my tiny person has finally succumbed to mid-morning sleepiness. after a rough couple of days, this week is already unfolding with promise. i look forward to seeing (and blogging!) what it holds.

Life in Photos

LIFE IN PHOTOS :: a beautiful sunny saturday afternoon

it’s just beautiful in central florida right now. as much as i miss norcal, i’m actually really glad i’m missing the pollen-infested allergy season. see this pretty flower? it wasn’t at all sneeze-inducing. at this time last year in california, both josiah and i sneezed non-stop for two months. here? nary a sneeze.

we’re taking advantage of this beautiful weather as much as we can. this afternoon, we went out for a walk in the sunshine.

oaxacaborn and 26pm - crossing the street - skirt and sandals, flip flops with blue jeans

out little neighborhood is simply lovely. we’re so blessed to live in a place like this. i just love all the palm trees! and i love that handsome man with all of my heart. (aveline’s eyelet floppy hat is from the children’s place; her dress is the sweet pinny from the pumpkin patch. it’s no longer available but you can view it here.)

26pm holding daughter baby aveline near palm trees - daddy's shirt from o'neill, baby's clothes from the childrens place

and what’s a little walk without a detour for coffee? decaf, of course. aveline is enough caffeine for me. when it comes to keeping me up at night, she gives late-night shots of espresso a definite run for their money.

oh, i live such a blessed, beautiful life.

Poetry & Words

106 degree days and coyote nights

it106 degrees in northern california‘s so dry outside, it feels like the world is going to crumble up and blow away. 106 is hotter than i remember, somehow.

the nights are still cool, so we sleep with the windows open and the delicious Delta breeze blowing through the screen.  the coyotes roam the countryside freely after dusk, and i’m at least once every night i’m awakened to their high-pitched yowling. sometimes it starts out slowly, just one coyote, and then slowly inches up, up, up as more and more voices join in, until finally the howls reach a fever pitch and the four corners of the house reverberate with their yi yi yis.

The daily Coyote

i love the contrast the earthy owl’s soft whooing against the sharp cries of the coyote. i imagine the owl is the sound of the feathered clouds slowly floating over the moon, while the coyote’s calls are the stiff branches of the dried california live oak branches, reaching up in vain to the august sky…reaching for rain that never comes.
