INTERIORS :: The prettiest H&M children’s room textiles…which are not available in the US!

Marianne from the gorgeous Scandinavian-style blog Nordic Bliss posted about the new H&M kids collection this week, and I haven’t been able to stop ooh and ahhing over what I see online. Rumor has it H&M Home is coming to the US in 2013…but what do you think the chances are that they’ll carry these exact same items? I sure wish they shipped internationally right now. :-P

See, I was planning to get Aveline a comforter and duvet cover set from Ikea once we convert her crib to a toddler bed, but I don’t see anything in the new Ikea catalogue that would really go with the lime green color. But that rabbit…ohhhh, I have to figure out a way to get that to the US, don’t you think? ;-) I mean, it is only £14.99 for a duvet cover and pillowcase! Ah, it’s fun to window shop and dream…

Summer Vacation Tour

TRAVEL :: Heidelberg, Germany with Amanda: A Stop on the Summer Vacation Tour

So far on this virtual travel series, we’ve explored two cities in Germany — Frankfurt and Hamburg, thanks to Sylvia (Artsy Ants) and Alyx (Every Day is a New Adventure). Today, we add a third to the list, as Amanda tells us all about living in Heidelberg!

AMANDA IN HEIDELBERG, GERMANY

A bit more about Amanda
I grew up in Ohio and moved to Florida a couple months after I turned 23. I lived there for three years and didn’t really plan on leaving. Then I met my husband, a medic in the Army, who was stationed in Georgia. I moved there the month after we got married. To our surprise, a month later, we found out we had orders to Heidelberg, Germany. Three months later, we were living here. So far, we have explored Heidelberg and several cities in Germany, and we plan to visit several more. We also plan to visit other countries, although we haven’t gotten to do so yet. I blog about our life and travels abroad at Overseas Adventures. Today, I’ll tell you a few of my favorite things about living here.

Poetry & Words

WRITING & WORDS :: Inside, we turn up the music.

I’ve been in a bit of creative slump, lately. Her nap times come and go, and the silhouettes of half-made fabric dolls stay untouched on the wooden dining table near the windows. Bits of felt and embroidery thread remain stashed in the basket, sketches with new ideas remain taped to the wall, and fabric remains uncut.

And these pages haven’t been so filled with words, not so very many words at all, because words seem just kind of flattened out and tired, these days. Nothing magical really comes from my pen.

Even us, well, we stay in the house. The thick and sticky air hugs the house and warms it beyond comfort, and clings to us when we step outside. It’s heavy, it pulls us downward and pours its moisture into us and we tire of it so quickly. There is no wind.

Inside, we turn up the music, we make forts out of pillows and sheets, we cut everything into bite size pieces, we rinse and repeat. And we drink tea.

Lots, and lots of tea.

And you know what? It’s the best, most delicious, invisible imaginary tea I’ve ever had.
