INSPIRATION :: H&M Home, Come to Mama!

H&M Home in the US - Oaxacaborn.com's picksWithin a few minutes of clicking onto the interwebs this morning, I got all the news. Snowden was released into Russia on temporary asylum. The weather in Orlando is going to be hot and muggy forever. And H&M Home is FINALLY available in the US.

If you know me, you know I’d rather by a rug or a set of curtains than a new pair of shoes or jeans. And I’ve been waiting for H&M Home for quite a while. (Actually, I didn’t wait. I had a UK friend buy a duvet cover there and mail it to me.)

Now join me in drooling over all this available-right-here-right-now goodness — just try not to drool on your keyboard. (Clicking on each photo will take you to the product listing on the H&M website).

Before Pinterest, This is How We Saved Inspiration - Serena and Lily Early Summer 2013

Remember back before Pinterest, before Tumblr, when inspiration was tactile and we could circle it with sharpies and cut it out and tape it to notebooks and stack those piles of inspiration on our desks?

Before Pinterest, these are the images I would have torn from the Early Summer 2013 Serena & Lily catalogue.

LIFE IN PHOTOS :: Aveline’s Room Tour

Happy Monday, everyone! I’m hitting the ground running this morning. My dear sis-in-law arrives in a few days for a week-long vacation, so I’m whipping the house into shape.

As I was tidying Aveline’s room — and doing laundry, and singing along to The Lumineers, and stopping Aveline from throwing away all her broken crayons — I realized I haven’t posted a tour of her room in a long, long time. I was going to wait until I finished the big “Forever Young” typography piece I’m designing, but I’ll just share that later when I’ve finished it.

“In returning and rest shall you be saved;
in quietness and in confidence shall be your strength.” (Isaiah 30:15)

These words keep coming back to me. In the midst of frantically getting this and that done, in the midst of the bowl of macaroni & cheese dumped on the carpet, in the midst of the screaming fits which two-year-olds are wont to do from time to time, in the midst of lists and laundry…in the midst of it all, these words echo.

And I know I need to stop, and truly listen.

In rest. In quietness. In confidence — a kind of calm assurance, free from anxiety.

This same Lord also whispers in my ear,
Come to Me, all who are weary and heavy-laden,
and I will give you rest.
Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me,
for I am gentle and humble in heart,
and you will find rest for your souls.
For My yoke is easy and My burden is light.
(Matthew 11:28-30)

How foolish I am to refuse!

INSPIRATION :: Autumn/Winter 2012 Toast UK House + Home Catalogue

We’re still drinking our coffee iced, so these cozy scenes seem like something out of a movie. Some of my family members elsewhere, though, have already had sprinkles of snow and are busy with all the mundane but necessary outdoor chores which accompany winter’s arrival.

I think I’ll stick with my romanticized perspective. ;) Here are my favorite images from Toast‘s Autumn/Winter 2012 collection for House + Home.

INTERIORS :: The prettiest H&M children’s room textiles…which are not available in the US!

Marianne from the gorgeous Scandinavian-style blog Nordic Bliss posted about the new H&M kids collection this week, and I haven’t been able to stop ooh and ahhing over what I see online. Rumor has it H&M Home is coming to the US in 2013…but what do you think the chances are that they’ll carry these exact same items? I sure wish they shipped internationally right now. :-P

See, I was planning to get Aveline a comforter and duvet cover set from Ikea once we convert her crib to a toddler bed, but I don’t see anything in the new Ikea catalogue that would really go with the lime green color. But that rabbit…ohhhh, I have to figure out a way to get that to the US, don’t you think? ;-) I mean, it is only £14.99 for a duvet cover and pillowcase! Ah, it’s fun to window shop and dream…
