i love white curtains. (i get mine mostly from IKEA–they have a lovely collection. but i digress.)
i love the way sunlight comes filtered in through the white fabric, and i love the soft shadows they cast. i love how the white takes on different hues in the morning light compared to the afternoon. i love how they can brighten a room, like a frame for the sun. and of course, i love the way the wind sets them to flight, tossing them to gauzy heights through open windows.
Late that afternoon, I lay / on the bed, the wind
blowing through the room.
It was fall, the days gold. / The white curtain, sheer
as a soul, lifting in the wind. / As if a hand, unthinking hand,
disturbed its calm repose. / It fluttered and rose.
Fluttered and rose… -Elizabeth Spires
